1. ✓Secure your admission / award letterThe official acceptance or scholarship letter is the anchor document for the whole visa file.
2. ✓Confirm the visa typeMost study stays need a national long-stay (type D) student visa, not a short-stay/Schengen-C.
3. ✓Prove your fundsScholarship letter, blocked account, or sponsor statement — the required amount varies a lot by country (see notes).
4. ✓Get health insuranceMany consulates require valid coverage for the first months or the full stay.
5. ✓Translate & legalize documentsNotarized translations + apostille of diploma, transcript and birth certificate where required.
6. ✓Book the consulate appointment earlySlots can fill 1–3 months ahead in peak season — book as soon as you have the letter.
7. ✓Assemble the application packPassport, photos, application form, motivation letter, accommodation proof, funds proof, insurance.
8. ✓Attend the interview & give biometricsBe ready to explain your study plan, funding and intent to return.
9. ✓After arrival: residence permitRegister your address and apply for the residence/study permit within the local deadline (often 1–3 weeks).
